Alfvén Waves: From Predictions to Evidence

More than 50 years ago, a Swedish physicist named Hannes Alfvén, who is one of the founders of plasma physics, predicted the existence of a new breed of waves with a restoring force provided by magnetic tension. These Alfvén waves can be generated in a wide range of magnetized plasmas throughout the Universe, including laboratory plasmas, the solar atmosphere and the Earth's magnetosphere. The proposed meeting will discuss the latest theoretical and observational advances made in this field.
