Data Archive of Milky Way Clusters

The Milky Way and SMC/LMC spectra will be released in slightly different formats due to the difference in the number of spectra taken.  The data products will be defined by a "Product level" designation. The lower the number, the more basic the data product will be. The G,  U or F refers to GIRAFFE, UVES or FEROS data. The data paper contains all the information on each star including ID, cross-identifications, magnitude, colour spectral type, and comments on any peculiarity noticed. These data were reduced in IRAF by Chris Evans, notes on the reductions are available here.

The star ID numbers in the files below correspond to those used in the the paper "The VLT-FLAMES Survey of Massive Stars: Observations in the Galactic Clusters NGC3293, NGC4755 and NGC6611"

The observations of the Milky Way clusters were as follows:

• GIRAFFE: 1x720s exposure per wavelength order (6 central wavelengths). 
• UVES   : 6x795s exposure (@ lambda=5200 setting).
• FEROS: various exposure times and numbers, the spectra here are normalised and trimmed to the same as wavelengths as the GIRAFFE coverage (3850-4750; the full and un-normalised data are available on request).

NOTE: GIRAFFE Spectra in Version2 release are NOT corrected to heliocentric frame. The FEROS spectra ARE corrected to heliocentric.

NGC3293 (108 stars observed )

Note : Star 3293-083 was very close to the chip boundary on the images used for astrometric and photometric selection. It
is likely a double component, and care should be taken in interpreting the spectra of this object (thanks to Brian Skiff for
noticing and pointing this out).

NGC6611 (73 stars observed: )

Note that the NGC6611 observations had more than 1 exposure in each wavelength region. Sky conditions deteriorated during the OB, and it was hence repeated. The number per wavelength region is between 2-4. All individual spectra are made available.

Notes

• Measured spectral resolutions, from the widths of the arc lines, are listed here.
• When the tar files are unpacked, the individual spectra files will be labeled cluster_wavelength_exposure_level_date_version.idnumber.fits : where exposure=exposure number (1-6), date=date of reduction, version=incremental number to allow re-release of corrected data, idnumber=running ID number in each field
  Example:  NGC3293_4124_01_G0_20040101_v01.099.fits
  is NGC3293 lambda_central=4124, exposure 01 (of 6), Level=G0, date reduced= 20040101, version=v01, Star ID number=99
• If there are any corrections in the reductions, then a full release of these files will be done, with a note as to what has changed, and the version number will increment.
